From a strategic point of view, if anyone does figure out how evil Russell really is, it would make sense to try and keep him with you right to the end. Who better to have sitting beside you at tribal? From a viewer point of view, I want him voted out so badly, lol.

While I was watching the show last night and hating evil Russell, I knew Jeff Probst was somewhere loving what he was seeing on tv.
Jeff: The spot we chose this time is called “The Blow Holes” located on the island of Savaii in Samoa. I gotta tell you it ranks right up there as one of the coolest places we’ve ever shot the tag line. Those blasts of water shoot nearly 100 feet high. If you watch it again it looks like I must have been drenched by the water, but the truth is, I never got so much as a drop on me.
I thought that was an amazing shot and it looked like a 100 foot wave behind Jeff. Nice to hear the danger he was in was minimal.

It looked like that wave was going to swamp him and pull him under. It made me gasp! Now2 to find out he didn't even get wet? What did they do, CGI him into the picture?

Jeff and the producers are about ratings. They seem to think that a personality like Russell is a ratings bonanza. They are wrong this time around. Russell's sense of humor was lost on me when he was so degrading to the women he chose as alliances and now talking about breaking someones bones to get further in the game just sickens me. Please let there be a revolt to get him out.

I like Jeff's blog but I sure hope he is pulling our chain about Russell , spawn of Satan, being around for awhile. One would think that someone will wise up to Russell's tactics very fast and boot the SOB outta there.

A new star has most definitely been born. He stands about 5 feet tall and when he slips that buff on top of his head, he transforms into a pirate, missing tooth and all. He was discovered on Survivor, the greatest reality show of all time, his name is Russell Hantz and in addition to being absolutely captivating on television, he writes and delivers some of the greatest material ever heard in 20 seasons of Survivor.
Perhaps Jeff and Dalton are right but I don't see it. All I see is a despicable human being put on what used to be a great reality show simply to shore up the ratings. Again, this is the exact reason why Survivor no longer merits even a nomination for an Emmy as best reality show.

Is it possible that Jerry Springer is on the casting team for S? I would rather watch my cats groom themselves than watch sociopathic A$$holes like Russell pull the legs off spiders, so to speak

Didn't Jeff say something like sit back and enjoy the ride? Thats what I intend to do. There have always been bullys and villians. How about that guy a few Seasons ago that pulled the other guy he was tied too through the jungle. I can't remember his name, but he reminded me of the Hulk.

Jeff: MOST UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENT: Ben shooting his imaginary gun at the “bad cop” Betsy. Now that was just wrong.
I couldn't agree with this statement more, Ben is someone that I would call dangerous. And he is far worse than Russell ever thought about being, in my opinion.

Imaginary gun or not, that was scary. I would hate to be on this guys tribe or against him. He is an a$$ and a dangerous one at that. If he thinks he's being funny, he needs to rethink. How did this lunatic get through the physch eval to even come on the show.

I completely agree with the overall consensus of BEN. The imaginary gun is just one more thing added to the horribleness that is his. Ever since the way he talked to Marisa in the first TC, I sensed danger, danger! And the way he cast his vote towards her was just as bad as the one towards Betsy. Russell is like a mosquito compared to scary Ben.
Remember hearing about the color coding the contestants receive after they are evaluated? There's always a mix of colored dots on every show. The red dot represented (something like) the out there craze zone! They may have never seen anyone redder than Ben. Looking forward to reading the blog now!

When anyone offers an article, could you please give us the link directly to the article itself and not to a homepage or anything else? My computer spent ten minutes loading the link provided only to find it was the EW homepage and I still needed to click on a direct link to Jiffy's blog. Thank you!

I will be honest up front that this is going to be a unique blog because as I sit on my couch writing, my mind and my heart are with all the local Samoan families who are in dire straits as a result of a devastating earthquake and tsunami that rocked the island of Upolu, just a few days ago. So much devastation, so many lives lost.
This is show business and the show must go on, so I will share my thoughts about this episode, but bear in mind my focus is somewhat challenged.
Here we go…

Me too, me too, Tanya! I also picked Jaison as a fave before the show started. The preview for next week looks bad for him. aaaaaaack!
Last night, I imagined the TC scene with Ben/Jaison being shown in many college classrooms today. It’s a real and worthy example that deserves to be included in race relation discussions, imo.
I thought the blog might be lacking a lot because of how it started, but like most times, Jeff wrote a really satisfying one.. For so many seasons, I couldn’t stand it when only the “aggressive players” were thought of as the only ones playing the game and/or who knew the game. LOVED how Jeff handled that misconception in this blog.

I agree, Tanya. Ben knew what he was doing, he simply did not care. Then, when someone calls him on it, he feigns ignorance.

FOA FOA WINS! FOA FOA WINS! FOA FOA WINS! It’s about damn time. Now that was an exciting challenge. A great finish and yes, I had to remind myself, “If yellow does in fact win, their tribe name is Foa Foa.” How great was it to see Jaison screaming, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5!”
It was awesome to see them finally win and to see Jaison counting it down!

Finally, one for the yellow! Jeff asked for opinions about the host-less challenge.
I liked it a lot! Had a Lord of the Flies feel to it. As much as I often need Jeff's comments during challenges, the silence was just fine here. We didn't need him telling us what was obvious since the challenge was slow paced. The contestants welcome his silence, too, one in a while - from what I remember reading. ;-)
But if they keep doing it, future contestants probably won't be as confused - which was a big part of what made it fun to watch.

I like Jeff's blog but I'm certainly not hopping into the Shambo pity party. Hell I'm older than Shambo and I find her annoying as hell. Jeff did an admirable job of defending her however and did raise some valid points in his human dynamics viewpoint.
I thought the hostless challenge was a hoot! I would like to see them try it again but naturally it is the kind of challenge that has to be keep clear cut and not in need of an outside arbiter.
I'm glad he gave his opinion on Jasmin who in my mind was a total waste of space. I'm just so frustrated at the number of people they allow on the game now who have no clue how to play.
Quite frankly--I'm finding this a very boring season to date, probably due in part to the habit of casting so many ppl who have no Survivor sense.

I can't say that I'm totally on the Shambo band wagon. She does bring a little humor, but that's about it. I haven't really seen her do that much except create negative drama.
Seems you're in the minority of liking the hostless challange Jakey. At least going by the comments on Jeff's blog. I'm still out about it. As Dalton mentioned, it was like watching the football game in the 80's when there were no announcers.

Jeff's Blog for epi 5 Man
oh man. If you have any kind of a heart, you have to be feeling for Foa
Foa. It’s been a long time since a tribe has performed this poorly.
You’d have to go all the way back to Survivor: Palau when Stephanie’s tribe was decimated week by week until she was the only person left in her tribe.
I have to stand up for all of the Survivors from this season. It was
a very difficult shoot. The rain was constant and it took a real toll
on everybody, crew included. It’s so easy to sit at home and say ”oh
just get over it,” but it truly is an extremely difficult experience to
undergo.
99.99% of the people who say they want to play Survivor, couldn’t handle Survivor.
It is an ass-kicking, humility inducing, physically exhausting, and
mentally taxing test of the human spirit. In spite of all the
challenging comments I make about the Survivors, at the end of the day,
I take my hat off to them for embarking on this adventure. For full blog: CLICK HERE

Rain is a double-edged sword on Survivor. It gives and it takes. We love the layer of drama it adds when you see the contestants shivering, their fingers wrinkled like prunes, as they struggle to make fire. But rain can also bring with it severe, life-threatening problems as it did this week when Russell collapsed due to dehydration.
I’m going to focus this blog on sharing with you everything you didn’t see that happened when Russell went down.

Jeff goes into such detail and explains why this and not that. He just about bends over backwards for the fans. I kinda feel sorry for him...well, not really. lol
But I think most fans were fine with last night's decisions, anyway. The thing is, why did Foa Foa have to vote Betsy off weeks ago when (forgot his name) was med-evaced out? I asked that ? in last weeks blog, but I'm not sure Jeff addressed that yet. I may have to read this one again - my brain went on overload trying to grasp some of these things the first time.
