Thanks Becca! You have given me a few names that I will place on my request list at the library. I do that online too! So much easier to find what they have and simply log in and place a request. I think right now I have sixteen requests, both books and DVDs. I am always looking for new authors so thanks for the name of Janet Evanovich.

I love to read! I usually have 1-3 books going at the same time.
The only magazine I read is Guideposts unless I'm in a dr's office; then I'll pick up People magazine.
I mostly read Christian fiction but also have read all of Sue Grafton's murder mysteries, Lillian Jackson Braun's "Cat Who.." books, John Grisham. I also like Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek Quilt stories.
In Christian fiction I like Beverly Lewis (Amish stories) and Robin Lee Hatcher. I've gone to Christian fiction because I'm always certain that they'll be clean. I'm a prude I guess. I like the stories not the smut or language.
I'm not in a book club right now so would love some book suggestions.

I have read a few of the Beverly Lewis books too. Amish people fascinate me so reading about their lives is quite interesting.

I usually have two books on the go. Right now I am reading Stephen White - Dead Time. I have read almost everything he has written. (Mysteries.) I'm also reading Sue Grafton, T is for ? whatever it is. I like her too. I just finished Candyland by Evan Hunter/Ed McBain, but it is smutty. I do like his 87th Precinct novels - they are clever, but Hunter's novels can be over the top with sexually explicit stuff. Too much for me.

I LOVED The Art of Racing in the Rain. What a great book, I read it twice. The second time it was on an audio book and the reader did ENzo to a T.
Another book I loved was Merle's Door. It is a true story about an adventure travel writer who finds a stray dog on a water rafting adventure and they adopt each other. It is a truly touching story.
Right now I am in an Italian mode, I was feeling nostalgic and missing my grandmother after seeing a documentary called Italians in America. The last 5 minutes that was narrated by Tony Bennet was point on and got me feeling nostalgic. So I started reading some books by an Italian author called Peter Pezzelli . The first one I read was Italian Lessons and enjoyed it so now I am reading Francesca's Kitchen

Oh wow, that just made me smile, bubu! The author of that book made an appearance in Eugene,OR last summer and I got my copy signed. He was very entertaining to listen to and he wrote random quotes from the book in everyone's copy. In mine he wrote, beware of the zebra. LOL One woman in my club often does audio and she said she was SO HAPPY that the voice of Enzo is the same one as the one used in the book trailer. Of course, I had to find it on youtube here. lol Loving Enzo! :-)

Great thread, Cindi.
I love to read. I don't take the time to enjoy it often enough though. I now have a list of "must" reads thanks to all of you.

The last set of books I read were the Twilight series. I have 15 year old twin nieces that insisted I read them and they were good. Before that was a political thriller series by Joel Rosenberg.
I also enjoy John Grisham and occasionally Stephen King.

I just received a Kindle as a gift. I'm loving it! You can even find free books at Amazon to download to it.

Okay, I am going to show my ignorance and ask what a kindle is? I can't keep up with modern technology.
I have five books on my coffee table and one in the bedroom. Thankfully, I read really, really fast. Most of the books are titles I got from this thread. Yea! Don't ya hate to pick up a book, bring it home and NOT like it.

I just finished "Here's Johnny" by Ed McMahon. Very good. Now I'm reading a book by Paula Deen called "It Ain't All About the Cookin" Its about her life. She throws in a few recipes. We are the same age. She tells about growing up in the South in the 60s and the civil rights movement. I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. There were no problems here. It was just something we would see on the News. I'm also reading Tom Brokaw's book "BOOM! voices of the sixties" Its good but I'm liking Pauls book better.

I have read one of Paula Deen's book but not sure it is the one you are reading, LindaJean. She suffered from agoraphobia for many years which is so hard to believe. I admire her for her cooking and for her success.

Yes, she talks about that in her book. The fear of open spaces. Wouldn't that be awful. I am claustrophobic. Its not that difficult to live with. I love open spaces. Its hard to imagine what she went through. I'm not that far into the book yet. I'm guessing she tells how she got over it.

I just finished reading Becca's recommendation, Water for Elephants, and found it quite good. Even though the background of a circus was off putting for me, the story was authentic, moving and quite interesting. (I dislike circus themes.)

I just finished reading a Political thriller called the Zero Game andit was excellent. I picked it up on a bargain table at the Christmas Tree Shop for only $2.99 so I picked it up not really expecting anything. It was really good.
I have a kindle too my friend got it for me for Christmas. I made the mistake of taking it to the laundromat with me and it slipped fom my hand and the screen in the top corner is unreadable. I am just sick about it. I hesitated at the extended warranty and time ran out so now I am stuck. I need to find out if I can have it fixed.I do love it though. I have a ton of books I got free and some for really cheap. I found another author I enjoyed with one of those free books and bought the sequel to it for only $3.95

I just finished Shanghai Girls. I don't rmember the author but it was a wonderful book. It takes place in China (Shanghai) from before WWII and prior to the Japanese invasion and takes you through to more current day here in America. It was touching story and centers on two sisters journey through hardship and heartbreak. I loved it.

cindi - I get it about the circus theme, but at the same time glad to have learned some things about it at a time when it was just so crazy dangerous.
jonsey - I heard Evanovich’s “15” wasn’t good. I’ve only read Plum Lucky so far and plan on reading other ones at some point. It’s refreshingly wild and funny...a FUN romp! I’ll never forget the “naked leprechaun” at the car wash. lol
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (autistic boy set in England) and The Help (black maids set in 1960’s south) are fictional ones I recently finished and recommend.
Right now, I’m listening to Olive Kitteridge and didn’t have to leave home. This feature offered thru the library is amazing. The book wait was too long, so I ordered the audio through "Library 2 Go" via e-mail. I have 14 days to finish it and then it disappears from my pc.
Several sentences have taken my breath away - they are that powerful, haunting, mesmerizing. style is substance, (1:15) Glad it got the Pulitzer. amazon link pulitzer

LOL Becka, that was what made me buy the audio book of Dancing in the Rain even though I already read the book. I loved the guy who read the book he did Enzo's voice so well.
