My father was not a bad man. He was a very sick man,” Phillips told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Thursday in one of a series of interviews about her tell-all book, “High on Arrival,” and her folk-rock superstar father, “Papa John” Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.

I saw MacKenzie's interview on Oprah and felt she was telling the truth. As an addict in recovery, I know that to stay in recovery you must be as honest as possible. I plan to read her book, "High on Arrival" as soon as I can. This type of behavior explains why she had such a difficult time staying clean and sober. May she find peace now.

I saw parts of the interview and I felt that she was being honest.  Who in the world would want to make that kind of thing up?  I sure felt for her, what a terrible life she has had.

Amen to that, cindi.

I’ve only seen Mac’s 1st interview with Oprah.   I immediately understood her truth and I ached.   I never had any doubt and believe her.

I wonder if both her stepmothers feel some guilt about (possibly) ignoring her during her life which may be part of the reason why they are calling her a liar.   I'm not saying her stepmoms were wrong for (possibly) not wanting Mac in their lives...just wondering if some guilt may be playing a role here.   There are other possible reasons for why they are calling her a liar, of course.

Just searched a little bit so far and I can’t seem to find anything about her biological mother, Susan Adams.

I have a lot of admiration for her in revealing her story. What a secret to hold in all these years. I hope Poppa has a special seat in hell for his despicable actions.

It sickens me to know that man got away with murder.  He killed her childhood and killed her life after his despicable behavior.  He was basically trying to kill her introducing her to heroin at such a young age.  I pray she has some peace and can have a brighter future.

If the stepmothers did not know what was happening and they just found out, they are probably in deep denial. No one wants to admit that this type of thing can happen in their families. Denial is a common reaction when one finds out about incest in the family.

Apparently there were people who did know but either chose not to doing anything or was unable to help the situation between Mac and her father.

I agree with Mac that her father was very sick more than he was bad. Anyone under the intense influence of drugs lives in a fantasy world. Reality does not exist. In his mind, he was probably loving his daughter which shows exactly how sick he was. Also remember that the latter part of the years were consensual which shows how very, very sick Mac was.

As long as Mac is not hiding anymore secrets, she should continue to get well and stay well.

I agree that deep denial is most likely a big chunk of what's going on with the 2 ex-wives.    Watched Mac's interview with Meredith at the Today site and thought it was a worthwhile follow-up to Oprah's.
