We took our kids to see Bolt this afternoon, the animated movie with the voice's of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus.  It was really good, better than I had expected, the kids enjoyed it and my hubby and I laughed out loud many times.

I rarely go to the movies because of the cost. I think I saw two movies this year, one was Sex and the City movie and the other was The Women. Neither was worth the cost but I had free coupons so that made it worth my while.

I do, however, go to my local library and borrow movies. They are free and I get to keep them for a whole week. Recently I watched Lars and the Real Girl which is an excellent movie. Last night I watched Atonement which was good but excessively slow.

Yes, I am behind the times but that is okay. I don't mind.

I also got to see "Lars" later.  Glad you brought it up, Cindi.  I went to IMDB and read some reviews just now.
The exercise was worth it as I got to feel this incredible film again.  If anyone’s interested, don’t let the trailer/synopsis fool you…it's worth a try.

I don’t go to many like I used to, but I LOVED “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and the song used for the movie. audio
It should start right up or choose
Barcelona from the audio choices on the right.

I’m looking forward to seeing these soon: Rachel Getting Married, Changeling, and Milk.

Are any of you seeing ads for "Support Us?" What is that all about?

Hey Cindi!

After 30 days from the date of founding a community, Aimoo puts the ads on display. That is the price of a free site. MSN also had flash ads on top of their community. In fact some of the MSN ads were to spyware links.

The only way to avoid the ads is to pay a fee to upgrade to a diamond community. No thanks!

We can live with the ads ---we'll get used to them. The days of free lunches is long gone. Sucks but what can ya do?

Cheers

Hey Cindi!

Just an update for ya. We are attempting to raise funds to go diamond which would get rid of the ads. So I'm confident that in a short while we will be ad free.

As for movies: I don't go out to  theatre anymore since there are just too many boors and rude a**wipes out there. Given today's prices and the general poor caliber of movies I think it is best to be selective in the video store after reading the reviews and getting word of mouth feedback.

Just saw "88 Minutes" today with Al Pacino: I enjoyed it. Can't go wrong with Pacino and there was a good supporting cast.

Saw Quentin Taratino's movie --Hellride---- Whata piece of crap. The acting was so far beyond abysmally terrible as to be almost funny.

Cheers

After each movie we swore we would NEVER go to the theater again !
 (PEOPLE, CONTROL YOUR HEATHENS) LOL

We did nothing but sequels and remakes this past year.

National Treasure (is that this years movie?) = disappointing
Indiana Jones = trilling but predictable
X-Files = not trilling but not predictable
Get Smart = best comedy in a long time (Steve Carell is just too funny)

What are the good movies out or coming out this holiday season ?
Anything really great ?

I haven't been to the movies in I can't tell you how long. Too expensive and around my area there are so many kids there it's like going to high school :(

I like watching them from the comfort of my own home where I can pause them and rewind. We rent alot from On Demand.

LOL @ Control your heathens.  I usually have more trouble with the adults who think they are in the middle of their living room and can talk and comment through the movie. I won't go to those new dinner movie thaters precisely for that reason. People really will think they can talk and gab and call the wait staff. NO THANKS! Bad enough we have to sit through commercials at the beginning.

The last movie I went to that I enjoyed was The Secret Life of Bees.

I am busy writing down the movies with all of your good reviews. Writing down 88 minutes but skipping Hellride thanks to Jakey.

Cutter, I don't much care for sequels. The only good ones I ever saw were The Godfather II and III. I will write down Get Smart though. I love Steve Carrell.

Becca, is Vicki Cristina Barcelona on DVD yet?

Oh, I want to see The Secret Life of Bees but will have to wait til it comes out on DVD.

I like sitting in the comfort of my own home with the remote accessible to pause too, Cheleg. I need my breaks if only to get up and stretch.

last movie me & hubby saw was "Qauntum of soloce"...id give it a 6/10..hubby gave it a 4/10....lol   I love daniel craig but this movie was not as good as Casino royale (which i loved)
I saw 88 mins on-line & hated it..I was expecting more from pacino.

Get smart was funny..  Tropic thunder was more action than comedy. i was really put off by the "retard" jokes..not funny, just really akward.

Im looking forward to 7 pounds with will smith..& The day the earth stood still.

Cindi - I just checked amazon.com and VCB is not available on dvd yet.  Search by Movies & TV, and then type in the name of the movie.  If nothing shows, it’s not out yet.  VCB is a fun romp and I think you’ll really like it.

I forgot about Tropic Thunder.  I found it hysterical.  And Tom Cruise is incredible in it; really quite incredible.

I read Secret Life of Bees a few yrs ago.  Excellent story.  I thought it had a Fried Green Tomatoes with a touch of  To Kill a Mockingbird  feel to it.  I imagine Fanning’s good in it, although I would never have pictured her as Lily.  Queen Latifah, Alicia Keyes, and Jennifer Hudson are also in it.  The women are older in the book and the movie took some liberties there.  I'm going with my book club and they better behave.  lol

Did I ever mention hating the gratuitous use of cell phones?  Well, that’s one reason I don't go to the theater often.  Once I sat near a teen who texted every 10 minutes or so.  I finally asked her to make one choice, movie or phone.  Good grief!   And my husband often shhh shhh's  people, so that’s that.  :-s

I know what you mean Cindi, We are drawn in by the original and always end up disappointed by the sequel.

Sue, Tropic Thunder was one of the movies we rented and also found his retard jokes awkward.
Didn't he also do those same type jokes in Dodgeball ?

Theaters have become the evening babysitter for people. Just drop off the heathens for the night.
For that reason we rented the latest "Pirates" movie instead of seeing it in a theater -
Good thing too, that movie was about 3 hours long.
That's another reason we have been considering going to a diner theater..
if it wasn't for the drinking that the local one advertises. No ponit in trying to watch a movie at a hoedown.

Just a few weeks ago -> rented "Baby Momma" with Tina Fay and Amy (what's her name) It was pretty funny with a newer plot.  That Amy is hilarious.

"Yes Man" looks like it might be good with Jim Carrey.

We always go to the matinee time to avoid the teens.  They seem to prefer to go to the later shows.

Ok I just rented two movie one good the other great.

The great one is called Shattered with Gerard Butler and Pierce Brosnan. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time until the very last second. Guys will love this movie as well, not a chick movie.

The other is called A Perfect Day with Rob Lowe. Very good kind of Christamsy movie without the silliness that some Christmas movies have. I see one more dumb Christmas movie I may barf. This is nothing like that

I am looking forward to Marley and Me. I loved the book, I was especially entertained as I had a dog just like that! She was a stray who was abused when we took her in so she had a reason to be crazy but sone thing we learned NEVER LOCK HER IN SOMEPLACE BY HERSELF!  LOL we would put her in the basement when we had company in the winter  because she couldn't be trusted around people. She chewed a hole through a solid oak door big enough for her to escape through. She was a big dog about the size of a German Shepard, so it was a huge hole. I thought my dad would kill her for it but he kept his cool. On his death bed, he told us how much he hated that dog, lol. My sister was hurt because she didn't believe he meant it before then. I said how could you not believe him? He said it everytime we talked about the dog, lol.

We usually go to a movie every Christmas Eve.  This year it was Christmas day.  We went and saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons.  Excellent movie and I hope Brad Pitt finally wins an academy for this movie.  He was amazing.  It was a bit long and slow in parts but well worth every minute.
The beginning of the moving shows how incredible digital technology has come. I highly recommend it.  Beautiful ending but bring a tissue.
I've heard that Sean Penn is great in Milk...but he has an Oscar...let it be Pitts year.

Wouldn't that be something if Brad wins and Angelina for Changeling (which I want to see)

Another one creating Oscar buzz is the Titanic duo's called Revolutionary Road (I think)  saw the trailer and their acting (leo Decaprio and Kate Winslet) looks good but subject matter is a bit depressing.

Doubt with Meryl Streep (so you now it will be good) and Philip Seymour also another Oscar worthy film.  Both stellar actors and many oscars under their belts.

So the ones I have heard Oscar buzz about.
Benjamin Buttons
Changeling
Milk
Doubt
Revolutionary Road...
Anyone know of any others?

The Wrestler came out of nowhere and is getting a lot of buzz.
Frost/Nixon is buzzing also.
Rachel Getting Married is supposed to be good and I want to see it.

Check out the  Oscar buzz  a
nd  GG noms
I recently saw Milk and was wowed by the story and Penn's performance.
I moved to the SF Bay Area just 3 yrs after the incident and knew about it, but learned plenty more after seeing the movie.  I have a deep connection to the story, so I'm kinda biased about it.   I truly hope Penn gets the GG and Oscar, but I'm not counting on it.

As far as I'm concerned, Streep and Seymour-Hoffman can win every award until eternity.  lol
They are part of a phenomenal group, imo

I'm VERY excited to see that Vicky Cristina Barcelona (sound ON) has gotten several Golden Globe noms!
Well deserved!!

Jonsey,  V C B is a Woody Allen movie.  Click on the link in post 23...entire cast shown there.

When I wrote that about Streep and Hoffman, I was agreeing with you!  lol
Fine, Brad can win.   And if he doesn't, I really, really, really  hope it's Penn!   ;-)
