Hubby and I wanted a no brainer upbeat movie so we went and saw Yes Man with Jim Carrey. I actually liked it better than I thought I would. Not so much of his slapstick, fall down comedy. Some pretty funny parts and one a little offensive but all in all a pretty good movie. I'm also a Zooey Deschanelfan. Her name cracks me up, I always pronounce it as Zoey!

I love watching Zoooooooey! I first heard of her 4 years ago when I saw her in A Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. She reminds me of Debra Winger...a lot.
I saw Doubt last night. It was all about Streep and she was incredible (of course). There was something about the way Streep took on this role that had me thinking of Judge Judy almost all the time. LOL I loved it.
I "doubt" that Doubt will get an Oscar and it's not nominated for a Golden Globe, but it's possible Streep can win for her role in it.
Unless Winslet was better (I haven't seen those movies yet), I'll just predict Anne Hathaway gets it for Rachel Getting Married (still haven't seen it).

I just saw "yesman"..it was so-so...i was expecting to laugh alot more. The one scene with the older woman just creeped me out...NOT for kids under 13.
i also saw "Grand torino" ....i loved it!~~ eastwood was amazing & very convincing as a racist korean war vet..although the other actors were pretty bad.

Son and Hubby went and saw Seven Pounds last night and came home raving about it. I just didn't have the energy to go now I wish I would've. Lot's of kleenex needed.
Is there really ever a time Streep isn't amazing in a role..(other than Mama Mia) I just didn't like the movie.
I understand Angelina is also very good in Changeling. I just need a movie theater in my house so I can see all of these before they do the Oscars. As much as I love Streep, I like seeing others get it. I can imagine when the actress's selected go through when they find out they're up against her...it's probably like, why even bother buying a killer dress..I won't be going up on the stage..LOL
I know what you're saying about Yes Man Sue. It was a very uncomfortable scene and the movie could've done without it. Compared to his other movies, I enjoyed this one.

I love the Globes and the Oscars no matter how bad they are. Pitt then Penn Beccka and I really don't know who for women. Probably Streep for Doubt which in the trailers looks to be a stellar performance by her.

I went to see Marley and me today and roared with laughter and ended up in tears. What a touching movie. I especially loved it as I had a dog just like that. She was destructive as a tornado and insecure all her life but she was so endearing and special, you couldn't help but love her.

It appears someone made a mistake and let the cat out of the bag that Anne Hatheway won the Golden Globe for best actress only to find out it wasn't true. They hadn't even counted the votes yet. She did win the critics choice award so it still seems a little suspicious to me. It looks like Penn will win Beccka...dang it. He also won the critics choice award and Heath Ledger won it posthamus for supporting actor. Benjamin Buttons out of 8 awards didn't receive one. I'm so disappointed. There's just too many great movies out there not like when Titanic won and you knew it was going to be a grand sweep.

Tropic Thunder is the best comedy/satire I’ve seen in years. It was fun to sit among an audience who got it and laughed along. It received 7.5 out of 10 stars at IMDB which is quite good. I read the first few written reviews and they were spot on (imo). I would love to see Robert Downing, Jr. get a GG for his role in this movie.
The Hathaway fiasco was mentioned on yesterday’s Today show which is when I first heard about it. Here’s the story and then scroll to read the rest of it. All I saw was Hathaway’s performance in the trailer and guessed that she’ll take the GG. Who knows... I don’t care who wins this one, anyway. ;-)
According to my husband who hasn’t seen Rev Road and Frost/Nixon yet, Slumdog Millionaire was better than Benjamin Button and The Reader <----I’ve only seen those 2 and liked Button better, but I still wasn’t all that thrilled with it. Just a wild guess that Slumdog gets it.

Girls day out today and we went to see 7 pounds with Will Smith...note to self...see a comedy next time especially if going out afterward. It was very good...slow as most drama's but a great story..sad but a happy sad.

Well tonight's the big night..2nd big night. I like the less formal atmosphere of the Globes. I will start watching the red carpet as soon as it starts.

I also prefer the Globe's format. Just wondering now what they are served to eat...can't be too messy or too filling I imagine. Maybe it's all drinks for all I know! ;-)
Too bad Cate Blanchett isn't nominated for anything because I always look forward to seeing her. Her sense of style always gets my biggest nods of approval it seems. She's one of my favorite actresses for many years, too.

I also like Cate Blanchett. Can't say as her sytle thrills me. I always thought Halle Berry was the queen of the red carpet...always a to die for dress and impeccable make up and hair that always suited what she wears.

I forgot about Halle Berry for some reason. Yea, she always looks great.
MSN shared 16 photos so far on the home page and this was my favorite out of all of them, but wish I had seen more...this is Christina Applegate:

Thanks, Jonsey. I clappped wildly when VCB won and the bonus was seeing Mad Men awarded again.
I was impressed with Speilberg's speech as he accepted the DeMille award. Incredible scope of work, but I thought it's too bad he got this on the heels of the awful (imo) Indiana Jones' installment that came out last year.
I always enjoy seeing Laura Dern - she always seems so poised, articulate, nice style, and in good shape. I very much like what she wore last night and how she looked in it, although I wish I could find more photos that especially show the waistline. Dern was a Miss Golden Globe in the early 80's.
My other favorite is another Laura...Laura Linney. I also thought she looked nice last night. Great actress, poised, smart, pretty. The 2 Laura's could play sisters, imo.

We took my nephew to see Mall Cop the other night. Kevin James is so funny. Perfect for this part. I half expected to see Adam Sandler in the movie but no such appearance.
The best part of the movie has to be the soundtrack WOW, it was fantastic ! Kiss, Bon Jovi, a few others and Frankenstein by Edger Winter.
oh yeah, We enjoyed to movie too.

I've always liked Kevin as a comedian but I just wasn't sure about this movie.
I will rent it though on DVD.
I've heard that Gran Tourino was a great movie. Typical Eastwood with a stellar performance by him. The feedback has been that it's extremely racist which concerns me and my friends have felt bad laughing at some parts but everyone has said it's an excellent movie...shades of his Unforgiven performance.

The avatar is hysterical, Jonsey! (insert BIG smile here) Ah, those binkies.
I just checked IMDB and Gran Torino is doing better than I imagined... 8.5 out of 10 stars. I saw the long trailer in the theater. I often don't see movies like this because I become way too uncomfortable when there's violence involved. Seems like a good movie, though. I don't consider laughing bad if you know where it's coming from...it depends. Perhaps Eastwood (director?) was hoping that would happen. Laughter has the ability to bridge a gap. I'm thinking along the lines of the 70's sitcom, All in the Family, a brilliant show.

I don't want to see that Eastwood movie. I like him but I don't want to watch a racist movie plot whether it turns around at the end or not. That is not a spoiler I have no idea what happens at the end. It can go either way. I might rent it later, I'll see.
I can't make up my mind which to go see tomorrow, Frost/Nixon, Revolutiionary road or Defiance. Maybe I'll leave the choice to my friend even though it is my turn to choose

Mom and I went to see Marley and Me this afternoon. I do not go to the movies much but I am glad we saw this one. I was really impressed with Owen Wilson and, of course, I have loved Jennifer Aniston since Friends. Marley and Me was a very enjoyful afternoon.

I thought The Reader was good, but enjoyed Frost/Nixon more. I still haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire and kept missing chances to. Will have to rent it.
Favorite moments from Oscar night: Tina Fey and Steve Martin - nice choices to present the screenplay awards and the way it was presented was smart. Also smart was the way the best actress/actor awards were presented. What Shirley MacLaine said to Anne Hathaway was so moving! I'm glad Winslet won, but I liked Hathaway's performance more.
Milk and VCB were my favorite movies of 2008! Very happy to see Penn and Cruz win.

RE:Movies--What show have you been to lately?

I thought the Oscars were the best in a very long time. I loved how they presented the top awards...kudos. It was great to see the lesser known actresses getting accolades from such power houses. I also thought what Shirley McLaine said to Anne was so heartfelt. I was very curious though as to why the audience gave three of the top categories standing ovations for the presenters except best supporting actor.
Loved Hugh Jackman and his montage to the nominated movies. LOL about budget crunching and how cheesy it was but he is so talented in so many avenues and he sure is easy to look at.
I'm excited to see Slumdog. Never even heard of it until it was nominated for everything and bringing the kids from the slums of Mumbai was exciting. Watching the interviews with them was fun and you just wanted to hug them all.
I was happy for Penelope and I haven't yet seen VCB. It's always out at my video store.
What can you say about Meryl Streep. 15 nominations. She hasn't won in 25 years. I'm sure she will have one more Oscar in her pocket to tie Jack Nicholson's record of three.
Kate Winslet is so beautiful. She had a Grace Kelly vibe about her last night. Haven't seen the Reader yet either. I had to chuckle when she was accepting her award and asked her father to whistle and she no more got it out and here comes this whistle. Such a touching moment when Heath Ledger's family accepted his award and how touched and pained so many of the actors looked. I think it really hit home with Robert Downey Jr and all his drug problems. I thought that he was probably thinking, "that could've very well been me."
Tina Fey and Steve Martin...pure genius.
All in all. Whoever produced and scripted last nights affair needs to keep doing it. I keep waiting for Billy Crystal to make a comeback. He is the king of red carpet hosts.

Thanks for the reminder. Winslet's whistle request and her dad's response - very cute moment. (shown in this video) She looked stunning.
I had to see this again because the way of presenting is wonderful (imo). The first 2, MacLaine and Cotillard, were so warm and generous towards Hathaway and Winslet. I would've had my hand on heart, too,....and cry my eyes out! Streep cracks me up and I caught this last night. Seems like she says "is that enough?" after Loren commented on her 15 noms so far.

I went to see Slumdog Millionaire today, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. A lot of times they make this big fuss about an independent movie and you run to see it and it stinks,ie English Patient and sometimes it is wonderfully touching like Life is Beautiful. Well this movie is definitely the latter rather than the former statement. I loved it, it was so touching and sad all at the same time. Definitely worth seeing and deserved all the awards won last night against the movies it was up against
